An individual holding a Certificate of Fitness (C of F) for Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems and Other Related Systems is required to be physically present at any buildings where a fire alarm system is installed. All alarm monitoring companies reporting fire alarms to the FDNY must operate from an FDNY approved central station. All new alarm connections and alterations to existing fire alarm systems must be reported to the FDNY.

Owners are responsible for inspection, testing and maintenance of the fire alarm system and alterations or additions in accordance with NFPA 72/2002 National Alarm Fire and Signaling Code
Records of all inspections and maintenance must be kept on premise for a minimum of three years.
These records must be kept available at all times for Fire Department personnel.
Paper copies of application and study materials are also available at the address below. It may be possible to take this exam orally.
