New York State and New York City have laws about weights and measures. These laws make sure items are sold by their true weight or size. The NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) inspects gas stations every year. They also look into customer complaints to make sure the laws are followed.
Key rules:
- It is illegal to sell gas in New York City without showing the correct price per gallon, type, quality or brand.
- Gas sold as unleaded must have no more than 0.05 grams of lead per gallon.
- DCWP can check equipment and business records.

Testing fees for gas pumps range from $20 to $40 per pump.
